Tim Silver
3 September – 10 December 2013
Silver has a long-standing interest in material transformation – sculpturally and photographically articulating the passage of time. Silver skillfully recasts his subjects – the figure of the artist himself, fragments of found nature – using materials that collapse, dissolve or degrade through performative action during their presentation. His work is underscored by questions around mimesis, history, trauma and permanence. In subjecting his sculptures to various entropic processes, Silver poetically explores broader notions of time, mortality and our relationship with the tangible world. Silver was recently included in Seven Points (part 2), Embassy of Australia, Washington; We used to talk about love, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney and Parallel Collisions, 2012 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art. Tim Silver is represented by Sullivan+Strumpf. Image: Tim Silver, Untitled (Rory grown up) 2013 pigment print on etching rag 310gsm, 89 x 89 cm
