Anne-Marie May

24 March – 20 June 2015

Anne-Marie May emerged as a member of the influential artist run initiative Store 5 in the early 1990s. To this day the artist’s practice has been concerned with the application of diverse media and materials into both geometric and organic form. The artist’s oeuvre has remained nuanced and varied between the geometric and gestural, and is consistently experimental. Since 2007 Anne-Marie May has widely exhibited an extensive series of sculpture in thermally formed and folded acrylic, which variously conduct and project light with shadow according to the installation context. More recently, the artist has developed an ongoing series of unique state bronze sculptures cast from paper, rendering tectonic models from original paper maquettes into the most enduring of sculptural media. Anne-Marie May’s work is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Victoria, the National Gallery of Australia, Heide Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia. Anne-Marie May is represented by Murray White Room, Melbourne, and Hamish McKay Gallery, Wellington.
